I started this company as a finish carpenter and after working on many older wooden windows and doors, I discovered that the methods and materials used in their making are generally far superior to what is offered in todays replacements. I was brought up to not be wasteful and have often found value in the accomplishment of making something fine work again.
Older windows and doors have proven to be just the right challenge and I found the Bluegrass area of Kentucky to offer plenty of this kind of work. After much research and years of practice we have become a specialty shop aimed at restoring wooden windows and doors to the highest form of the art. Our goal is to prepare these elements of original design to go on in their lifetime more easily and gain their normal life expectancy of hundreds of years.
We use solid bronze, copper and zinc in fitting weather strip to doors and windows in lasting methods demonstrated by our predecessors. We also employ modern materials when these have demonstrated improvement in older methods.

Services
One of the joys of the independent businessman is meeting people who share an interest in what we do.
We offer simple site visits in which we walk through, take a look at your windows and doors, and discuss age, condition, and the source of (and probably solutions to) problem areas we may find.
We charge $50.00 for a local site visit of this type which ususally lasts about one hour.
If we do not consider your site local, there may be a charge for time spent and travel.
A more formal evaluation may include a written schedule of the windows and/or doors within a property and include a statement of their current condition along with suggestions for their maintenance, repair or replacement.

When your home becomes drafty, and more difficult to heat, through failure of the existing wooden windows and doors, our company offers an affordable alternative that will preserve the look of the original design.
Your existing wooden windows, along with our storm windows, provide a level of long term energy efficiency that may exceed what is offered by the modern replacement windows found today.
Your original wooden door, with properly installed and maintained seals, can look and function better than most replacements.

Often I see older wooden windows that are in great shape, whose paint finish has lasted well through the average 15 year paint maintenance cycle, and in homes where heating and cooling costs are reasonable.
These wooden windows ALWAYS have the protection of a storm window.
Although never intended to be a permanent part of a building, most storm windows are considered temporary coverings (perhaps 25 years of life expectancy) and should be replaced when they are no longer sound or seal out drafts.

When cold weather hits, owners of new and old homes call us for a solution to the house that never gets quite warm enough.
Our storm windows add a layer of insulation over window openings along with reducing cold air drafts.
Most methods of manufacturing aluminimum storm windows made use of small pins that hold the glass and screen panels against the frame.
This method did not generally allow easy operation, a tight seal, or did it hold up well over time.
Our most commonly sold residential storm windows do not reply on pins but rather have a fully pocketed frame and are gasketed on both sides of the moveable panels.

The common points of failure resulting in damage caused by rot in any wooden window unit are; the junction of glass and wood in sash (filled commonly by glazing putty), direct contact of the bottom rail of wooden sash with sill, and water dripping unnecessarily onto the unit from above.
Storm windows generally offer protection from all these causes.
In addition, storm windows provide protection for the inside surfaces of wooden sash caused by condensate.
Think of the dew point as a physical position along the line of coldest to warmest (outside to inside) and having it show itself within a window unit where water vapor does condense (either in droplets or frost).
