The Church of the Open Door was founded as an independent fundamental church in 1962 by Dr. Robert E. Mayer. For six months a Bible study was held in a private home. Regular Sunday and Wednesday services began in November of 1962. The small congregation met first in a rented storeroom on the corner of Fifth and Locust Streets. In November of 1963 the church was incorporated and moved into a larger church building on Fourth Street.

In the fall of 1978 Lebanon Christian Academy began. The church and school moved into a stone mansion located on East Walnut Street. In 1980 the church and school moved again, this time into a newly-constructed building at 875 Academy Drive where the church and school continue to thrive. In 2001 the church's name was officially changed to Open Door Baptist Church for the purpose of clarifying the church's doctrinal position to the community.

Burdened to further educate men and women in the truth of God's Word, Pastor Griffith established the Open Door Bible Institute.
Services
We have Sunday School classes for all ages - from infants under the tender care of our nursery workers, to our 2-3 year old class, and through the adult class.
Every age will enjoy learning more about God and His Word in their Sunday School classes.
Please join us for a special time gathered around God's Word to learn exciting Bible truths that will encourage and uplift your faith!
Our Junior and Senior High Teens, grades 7-12, meet every Wednesday evening at 7pm for a great time of Bible study, fellowship, food and fun.
In addition to the Wednesday night meetings, there are Bible studies, rallies, retreats, nursing home outreaches, special outings and many other fun activities all designed to promote spiritual development and character in our young people.
Character In Action (CIA) is held each Wednesday night at 7:00 PM for children 4 years old through 6th grade.
CIA begins in the Fall and ends in the Spring.
CIA is held here at Open Door Baptist church.
Each night includes Briefing, Maneuvers, and Debriefing.
Also we have special treats throughout the year.
As the children learn their verses and character traits, they earn "Chits" that they can "spend" at the Company Store after each Mission.
Mr. & Mrs Nate and Casey Beiler are our CIA Directors.
