The Open Door is a licensed non-profit behavioral health organization designed to provide treatment and services for substance use and gambling related concerns; impaired driving program; and crisis intervention for Armstrong and Indiana County residents. It is our mission to empower individuals to take steps toward hope, courage, and recovery. If you, a family member, or a friend need help right now you can access crisis intervention services 24 hours a day.

Our trained crisis intervention specialists are here to listen, assess, and assist individuals after a crisis. Mobile and phone services are available 24-hours a day. Walk-in crisis intervention services are offered from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday - Friday and from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. From referral to pre-screen to assessment The Open Door provides individuals and their families with counseling services, options for medication assisted recovery, and education for substance use disorders.

Services
The Open Door (TOD), from its inception in 1972 as a United Ministry Volunteer Task Force, has offered crisis intervention services.
Since that time, we have grown into a licensed outpatient facility providing a variety of services including Alcohol and Other Drug Screening, Assessment, Education, and Treatment; Crisis Intervention Services; and DUI Evaluation.
In 1996, an affiliation agreement with Indiana Regional Medical Center (IRMC) was established to increase access for services.
In 2003, our in-house buprenorphine program was started to assist those specifically struggling with opiate addiction.
The Open Door offers a full range of outpatient drug and alcohol treatment services including group, individual, couples and family modalities to address substance use related concerns in both child/adolescent and adult populations.
Levels of care include traditional outpatient, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization.
Intensity, frequency and duration, as well as specific group assigned to will vary based upon the needs of the individual.
Services at an outpatient level are 5 hours per week; clients enrolled at an intensive outpatient level will meet 6-10 hours weekly, and clients enrolled at a partial hospitalization level will meet for a minimum of 17 hours weekly.
The Open Door provides various levels of care for children, adolescents, and adults which is determined by the use of nationally used, state approved criteria for treatment.

The pre-screen is a process by which the client is determined appropriate and eligible for admission to a particular level of care.
They take about 10-15 minutes, and can be done by calling The Open Door or walking in during business hours.
Criteria considered are psychological, social and physiological signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drug use and abuse.
Crisis can offer judgement free, confidential support for any difficult situation in a person's life.
Unconditional positive regard and compassion for hardships, as well as the ability to talk-through ones' problems, safety plan, and develop social supports; as well as provide resources and referrals for area agencies that may be of further assistance.
A crisis is defined by the consumer.
Any situation that the consumer feels they are unable to handle, that may cause stress or difficulty in life, or need to see if there are any resources or services that they may benefit from; they can call the crisis hotline anytime 24/7 and talk with a Crisis Intervention Specialist.
