Egress Window to take things directly into the basement instead of taking them down the stairs.
I was very surprised when you laid down plywood on the lawn to hold the machine when you dug the hole by the window.
Well will go into the basement drainage system.
I also was very happy that the lawn was not torn up or damaged.
It is very satisfying to know there are two routes out of my basement (the stairs and the Egress Window).
Safety - According to the U.S. Fire Administration, "4,000 Americans die each year in fires, and over 20,000 are injured, " many of which could be avoided with proper escape plans and routes.
An egress window in each bedroom, as well as in other "habituated" areas (basements included), drastically increases your chances of safe escape in the event of a major house fire, and provides entry points into your home for emergency personnel.
Added Comfort - An egress window in a basement dramatically brightens an otherwise dark, dingy room, " which isn't surprising considering the fact that most building codes require egress windows to provide "a clear opening of at least 5.7 square feet."
The natural light beautifies the basement and adds to the ambiance of the area.
Many basement egress window wells also include tiers inside them to allow planters to be filled with plants.
This also adds to the beauty of the basement.
Homeowners remodeling a home and builders building a new home would like to have a larger living space.
By meeting the building codes for basement egress a finished basement can nearly double the living area.
In fact, basement living space is the most affordable living area to build in a home.
