Renovate by Berkowitz (RbB) was established following a lengthy period of research and development by the former owners of J.E. Berkowitz, LP; Ed & Arthur Berkowitz. As architectural glass fabricators since 1920, they saw a need in the market for a product or system for existing office building owners to upgrade their single glazed windows/curtain wall systems.
Typically, buildings built prior to the mid-1970's used single-glazed windows or curtain wall systems. In 2006 Ed & Arthur developed the first prototype of the Renovate by Berkowitz window retrofit system. We took our prototype to the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) show in Anaheim, Calif., to see if there was any market interest. Marketing under the posed question; 'Is your building an energy hog, ' we spent a few days talking to building owners, developers and facility management personnel.

Arthur was formerly the President and CEO of J.E. Berkowitz and a third generation of the company founded by his Grandfather in 1920.
He has a B.S. in Psychology from Kenyon College.
Darrell is the Lead Project Manager for Renovate by Berkowitz and has been with the company for 6 years.
He has extensive experience in project management both in the commercial and residential fields and holds B.A. in Intellectual History from the University of Baltimore.

The Renovate system is a revolutionary window retrofit technology that converts existing single-pane windows into energy-efficient, triple-glazed insulated glass units (IGUs).
Intended for 30- to 60-year-old commercial buildings, the Renovate system maintains a building's exterior by hermetically sealing a factory-made IGU to the interior surface of the existing window.

ALL Renovate by Berkowitz Systems are manufactured with Argon Gas in the new insulating glass unit that is applied to the current glass.
In addition, both lites of glass in the new insulating glass unit are tempered, thus adding an additional layer of safety and security for the building's occupants.

We developed protocols to test potential installations for every project, including structural analysis, and air and water testing of the existing window/curtain wall system, to ensure the building is suitable for the Renovate system.
A structural review must be made by a licensed structural engineer prior to every RbB system installation in order to certify that the building is able to receive the additional weight that will be added.
